A few days ago while watching handmaids pass through the stores, I accidentally had a moment with one that I will never forget. This handmaid was walking alone. I found it strange considering they travel in pairs when shopping. I put a hand on her shoulder and turned her around, about to talk to her. When she turned around I mistakenly looked into her eyes! It was for only a second or two, but those few seconds are still fresh in my mind. I feel sorry for the handmaids, and this event merely strengthened this feeling. They aren't treated as humans, merely valuable objects that serve only one purpose.
